October — the month for cornstalks, pumpkins and mums; for harvesting summer's bounty and starting to think about cozy nights by the fire. At home. That's where the heart is and as it happens, that's where the art is too.
At their gallery-home in Lawrenceville, the 30 artist members of the Main Street Artists Gallery will also focus on home this month. The monthly 2nd Saturday this weekend will showcase their varied visions of home.
The three-hour artists reception will also offer smooth jazz by Barry Wilcox and Lady "D" along with comfort food (with a "home" theme, what else?), compliments of Weidel Realtors of Greater Princeton.
Although pieces by all co-op members will be on view throughout the gallery's four rooms, seven artists' work will be featured.
Judith A. Hummer, a long-time student of watercolor, produces landscapes and florals; she recently added seascapes to her repertoire. David Morhaim, who says art in its myriad forms has always been part of his life, will demonstrate that in the pieces he'll show.
While studying ceramics, Linda Pickering also works in acrylics, pen and ink and mixed media collage. Denise Schwartz is also on the featured artists list.
Suzanne Stevenson credits her immersion in macro photography of backyard beauties to two camera gifts at strategic points in her life. Susan Strassberg's ceramics and sculpture include both art objects and functional pieces such as vases, teapots and bowls. Jewelry artist Nancy Troske takes cloisonné enameling in a contemporary direction.
With their first anniversary celebration just a month away and numerous activity irons in the fire, Lawrenceville artists have good reason to stick close to home for awhile. They invite old and new friends to stop by this Saturday.
