NOW THAT'S FUNNY
When they asked Clint Eastwood if he and his family wanted to be on reality TV, he said “Go ahead. Make my show.”
Actually, the focus of the show will be Clint’s wife, Dina Eastwood, and the couple's daughters. Clint does plan to put in some occasional appearances on the show, but he’ll probably just do his scene and then ride off the set before anyone can thank him.
Clint, 81, and his wife Dina, 46, were married in 1986, and have a 15-year-old daughter, Morgan, together. The show will also include Clint’s daughter with actress Frances Fisher, Francesa, who is 18.
I was a little disheartened to hear that Clint, who is old-fashioned Hollywood royalty, was going to stoop to parading his family along with the cavalcade of other “reality” families. I don’t want to find out weird or tacky things about Clint’s kids. I don’t want to see Clint in his old track suit with the coffee stain on it, complaining about the curling irons in the bathroom.
Clint has always been hard to pin down. First he was just a handsome movie star. He even shared the screen with a chimp! As time went on, his movies got classier. Then he became a director and made world-class films (“Million Dollar Baby” and “Mystic River” among them). He was even Mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California – remember that? He is an accomplished musician, and has composed the scores to several of his own films, including the recent “J. Edgar.” He has had seven children by five different women.
Do you really want to burst your bubble by learning that a man like that loves Yoplait yogurt right out of the little cartons, or that he does baby talk to his pets? I think I’d prefer to admire Clint from afar.
The show, which will be a 10-part series airing on the E! network, will be called “Mrs. Eastwood & Company,” and will feature an a capella group from South Africa that Mrs. Eastwood is managing. The group, Overtone, has six men in it, and has moved into the Eastwood’s house.
Perhaps the show is just a way to get this singing group some more attention. Or perhaps the Eastwood daughters will go all Kim and Khloe on us when the cameras start to roll, because “Mrs. Eastwood & Company,” is being produced by the same team that brought us the Kardashians, "The Real World," and "Bad Girls Club." Nonetheless, Dina promises there won’t be any slapping or fighting.
There may be some shots fired from a six-shooter, though.
