Captain Bruce Kevin Clark, who collapsed and died in Afghanistan during a Skype session with his wife, was not the victim of a shooting, according to Army officials.
But a statement released by wife Susan Orellana-Clark said she saw a bullet hole in a closet behind her husband.
According to an Associated Press report on WSJ.com, Christopher Grey of the Army Criminal Investigation Command said there was no bullet wound found in Clark's body.
"Agents conducting the investigation found no trauma to the body beyond minor abrasions and a possible broken nose most likely caused from Captain Clark striking his face on his desk when he collapsed," Grey said, according to ABC News. Grey said the investigation is still ongoing.
The statement from Clark’s family said that others watching at Clark’s home in Texas, including a military member, believed there was a bullet hole in the closet, according to an Associated Press report in the New York Daily News. The Skype link stayed open for two hours in an effort to get help for Clark.
"After two hours and many frantic phone calls by Mrs. Clark, two military personnel arrived in the room and appeared to check his pulse, but provided no details about his condition to his wife," the family’s statement read, according to USA Today.
The body of Clark, age 43, was flown to Dover Air Force Base. He is survived by wife Susan and two young daughters.
