Marco Rubio 'benched': Would Chris Christie answer Mitt Romney's VP call?

As his name recognition elevates, Rubio’s autobiography, “An American Son,” hits the bookshelves. In his memoir, Rubio discusses his family’s relationship with the Mormon Church, in which the Rubio’s briefly were involved during his childhood before they returned to Catholicism.

Meanwhile, as for Mitt Romney, he says he receives many tips from the public about who he should pick as VP while working the “advice line,” more commonly known as the rope line.

“You know I get a lot of that. I didn’t get any of it today on the rope line today in Iowa, but in Wisconsin, I get a lot of people saying Paul Ryan oughta be your VP. When I’m in Ohio, I get Rob Portman. I get a very biased audience depending on the state I’m in which should not be surprising,” Romney told reporters Monday.

Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan’s name has also been bandied about in the Romney campaign.

On Monday, Ryan joined Romney in his congressional hometown of Janesville, Wisc., the latest VP contender to campaign with the presumptive GOP nominee on his five-day bus tour.

Ryan’s appearance with Romney fueled chatter in the small Wisconsin town about his chances of appearing on the GOP ticket this fall.

Also on the Republican Vice Presidential short list….New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte, in a possible effort to steer women voters Romney’s way.

Both Ayotte and Rubio plan to attend an event at the Waldorf Astoria Tuesday for Restore Our Future, a super PAC supporting Romney, in New York City.

The event is part fundraiser and part strategy as well as polling briefing.

By law, the presumptive nominee’s campaign cannot coordinate with the super PAC, but those lines have become blurred during the election cycle. Early this year according to the Wall Street Journal, Romney aides notified campaign staff that Romney campaign officials and surrogates could help Restore Our Future raise money.

Whether it’s Ayotte, Rubio or Ryan stumping for Romney, Christie reiterates that if his friend calls and his Vice Presidential pitch is interesting, he'll consider the offer.

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
