A group of eight young girls attacked a 63-year old Vietnam veteran on a Manhattan subway Sunday morning after he made remarks about the group being too loud.
Ralph Carnegary, 63, of Queens was on his way to work as a vendor on Wall Street when he encountered the women.
Carnegary said he was talking to friend James Santiago when the women came after him. Carnegary said, according to the New York Daily News, “Those girls must be retarded because they can’t hear each other talk.” Santiago, 46, jumped into the battle after two women attacked Carnegary from behind.
The group began throwing punches at him, and one stuck a knife into his left shoulder, requiring seven stitches to repair. Authorities recovered a knife at the scene of the altercation.
The women arrested were all aged between 15 and 20, according to Mail Online, and they were thought to be drunk. The 15-year-old was arrested, but her name was not released.
A law enforcement official told the New York Post that the eight women were “acting stupid.” Seven were charged with gang assault, disorderly conduct, rioting, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and felony assault. Suspects were listed as Shanice Brown, 20, Starmeik Driggins, 19, Kimberly Molina, 20 and Sheyla Figueroa, 18, all from Brooklyn; Michelle Rodriguez, 19, from the Bronx; and Martha Bermudez, 17, and Sha-fteva Burdos, 17, from Queens.
