A Dallas woman accused of beating her daughter and gluing her hands to the wall in September of last year, blamed her actions on physical and sexual abuse she received while growing up.

Elizabeth Escalona pleaded guilty to beating her 2-year-old child in July, a felony. The sentence hearing is in its fourth day.

According to NBC News, police said Escalona beat and kicked daughter Jocelyn Cedillo because of potty training problems, and stuck the child’s hands to an apartment wall with Super Glue.

Jocelyn Cedillo suffered bleeding of the brain, a fractured rib, and had multiple bruises and bite marks. She had been in a coma for a couple of days, and skin had been torn from her hands.

Escalona requested leniency from the judge, saying she had been molested by her father as a child, and she had been beaten by the fathers of her children. Escalona is a mother of five.

Her mother, Ofelia, told the judge that her daughter can be fixed. "She is not a monster," Escalona said, according to wfaa.com. "I am asking for probation.”

But prosecutors played recordings of Elizabeth Escalona as a teen threatening to kill her mother. They also said she had been in a gang, and began smoking marijuana at age 11. Prosecutors are looking for a 45-year sentence for Escalona.

Dallasnews.com reported that Escalona was arrested in March after a drunken fight at her birthday celebration. Escalona was out of jail on bond in March when she apparently got into a brawl of some sort with friends at an apartment complex. The fight broke out during a celebration of her birthday.
