2011 NFL Draft: Carolina Panthers analysis and predictions

WHERE THEY NEED HELP: Quarterback, Defensive Tackle, Defensive End,

ANALYSIS: They need help everywhere. The defense was 26th in points allowed. The Panthers appear to have decided that last year's 2nd round pick Jimmy Clausen was overmatched, and not the long term solution at quarterback, and that Auburn's Cam Newton has the talent to be a franchise player, and will be able to adjust to the pro-game. Newton, the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner is the high risk-high reward wild card in this draft. However new coach Ron Rivera is a former defensive coordinator who may want to rebuild the defense first, and find a pass rushing replacement for former Panther and now Bear Julius Peppers. Carolina could trade down in the first round and stockpile picks as they do not have a second round pick.

WHAT THEY SHOULD DO: Keep the pick and draft Marcel Dareus out of Alabama to anchor the defensive line for 10 years. If you want to go outside instead of inside, then draft defensive end Da'Quan Bowers. Can't go wrong with either

WHERE THEY ARE EXPECTED TO USE THE FIRST PICK: Cam Newton, quarterback, Auburn

Stupid!!!! If they take Newton, it is another mistake. They can fix most of the rush defense and passs rush issues with a DT. One unit getting better will help them win 5 more games this year and sets them up for next year. Taking Netwon this year means that they up for LUCK next year.
