Analysis of Rutgers football post-spring depth chart

Rutgers released its post-spring depth chart and much was as expected. Neither Chas Dodd nor Gary Nova were named as the starting quarterback and will compete for the job deep into August. Neither Jawan Jamison or Savon Huggins were named the starting running back and are expected to split carries this season.

However, the offensive line has its fair share of surprises. Aside from starting left tackle Kaleb Johnson — who sat out the spring recovering from offseason surgery — no one is where they were on the depth chart at the beginning of spring.

After opening the spring as the starting left guard, Betim Bujari is the starting center over Dallas Hendrikson. Maryland transfer R.J. Dill is the starter at right tackle. David Osei has moved from right guard to competing at left guard with Antwan Lowery. Taj Alexander, a converted defensive lineman, is listed as the starting right guard.

On the defensive line, Ike Holmes is listed as the starting defensive tackle next to Scott Vallone. That means Vallone moves back to the three-technique while Holmes becomes the nose tackle.

What seems like a subtle move will have major implications. The NT is used to eat up blocks. Now that Vallone won’t have to do that, he’ll be freed up to wreck havoc in the backfield.

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
