Barry Bonds refuses to leave baseball

Barry Bonds, who has never announced his retirement from baseball, wants to return — although not as a player.

According to the Associated Press, Bonds huddled with Larry Baer, president and CEO of the Giants, about a job with his former team. The former alleged steroid-enhanced slugger has a personal services contract with the Giants that the team said could be enacted once his legal wranglings are behind him.

Bonds, meanwhile, has had no trouble calling himself “a convicted felon for obstruction of justice” who “was never convicted of steroids.”

He is appealing his conviction from April 2011 for giving an evasive answer to a 2003 grand jury probing distribution of illegal steroids.

According to the story, Bonds’ current weight is down to 212 pounds from cycling, his new love. The 47-year-old holds the big league records for career home runs with 762 and home runs in a season for hitting 73 homers in 2001.

"I work out every day,” Bonds told the AP. “That never changed. I'm going to die training. That's what I love to do more than anything in the world."

He made the comments while attending the Giants-Diamondbacks game at AT&T Park on Memorial Day as part of his charity work with the Big Brothers and Sisters in the Bay Area.

Bonds is recovering from two recent surgeries. He had a disk injury in his lower back that was repaired and also underwent a procedure on his hip and quadriceps area.

The slugger claimed he was surly attitude that partly defined his baseball career was by design, and that the steroid accusations have caused him emotional pain.

“My (reputation) was kind of iffy anyway,” Bonds said, according to the Washington Post. “I created that guy out there for entertainment only. Whether you hated me or liked me, you were there. And I only wanted you there. I just wanted you to see the show. That was it.

“All I ever wanted was for people to have a good time and enjoy it. It was fun to come out and people would boo or yay or whatever. They all showed up to see whatever would happen next and it motivated me to play hard."

Bonds said he does not worry about whether or not he will be voted into the Hall of Fame.

“I don't try to predict the future or analyze how other people are thinking or how it's going to turn out. I face my opponents as they come."

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
