THE GAME: Rutgers (12-12, 2-9) will be preparing to win its fourth game in five contests when it welcomes Georgetown (18-5, 8-4) to the Louis Brown Athletic Center on Sunday (Feb. 14) for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off. The Hoyas are ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press poll and No. 8 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. The Scarlet Knights will be looking to defeat a ranked opponent for the first time since downing No. 13 Pittsburgh, 77-64, in the Steel City on Jan. 26, 2008. Rutgers last victory over a top 10-ranked foe was a 95-82 defeat of No. 9 Notre Dame at the RAC on March 1, 2003.
RUTGERS NOTES: Rutgers is coming off a 70-62 home victory over Caldwell Tuesday night. Sophomore guard Mike Rosario shot 9-of-17 to score 25 points in helping Rutgers improve its non-conference record to 10-3. Junior forward Jonathan Mitchell and freshman wing Dane Miller also scored in double figures, posting 14 and 10 points, respectively. Defensively, Rutgers was once again led by Hamady Ndiaye. The senior center grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and issued six blocks.
Miller is the current Big East Conference Rookie of the Week. He is averaging 12.5 points-per-game in league contests to lead all Big East rookies in scoring in conference games. Among freshmen in league games, Miller also ranks first in steals (1.55), tied for third in rebounding (6.0), third in assists (2.73), and tied for fourth in blocks (0.64). Ndiaye leads the Big East and is third nationally in blocks with an average of 4.75 rejections-per-game. As of Feb. 11, he had accumulated more blocks this season than 11 teams in the conference.GEORGETOWN NOTES: Georgetown, under the leadership of sixth-year head coach John Thompson III, has won two straight and earned a 79-70 victory at Providence Tuesday night. Chris Wright posted 21 points to lead four Hoyas in double figures, while sophomore big man Greg Monroe dished-out 12 assists. Junior guard Austin Freeman paces the team in scoring with a 16.8 average, including a 19.7 mark in league games.
THE SERIES: Sunday afternoon's contest marks the 41st all-time meeting between the schools on the hardwood dating back to 1922, with Georgetown holding a 25-15 advantage in victories. The Hoyas have won eight straight in the series, including an 88-63 win earlier this season (Jan. 23) at the Verizon Center. The Scarlet Knights have found success at home versus the Hoyas, winning 10 of the 18 matchups played in Piscataway. Rutgers last series victory was a 66-59 triumph at home on February 11, 2003.
