David Wright to talk $100M contract: Is he the Derek Jeter of the N.Y. Mets?

The New York Mets may be trying to erase the woes of the 2012 season by offering its golden boy, David Wright, an extended contract nearing 100 million -- a deal that would make him a Met for life.

According to Sports Illustrated, Wright a nine-year veteran developed through the Mets farm club systems was the shining light during a bleak season, hitting .306 with 21 home runs and 93 RBIs. After the All-Star Break, the Mets season took a turn for the worse.

If successful, the offer of 100 million marks a very serious attempt for the Mets organization to secure its hold on its face of the franchise, (Wright, just shy of 30 years old), after losing big name players, Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes in the past to bigger organizations.

As explained in detail by Jon Heyman of Baseball Insider:

Wright told the Mets he didn’t want to negotiate during this season, at least delaying their hope to make him a Met for life, and he said in an interview this weekend that that goes for next season, as well. That leaves this winter as the time to get it done. Based on the surprisingly flattering words he had about the second-division-dwelling Mets, it’s up to the team. There are no excuses.

Negotiating with some flexibility, the New York Mets intend to try their hardest in order to keep their biggest star, as noted by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The Mets may have had more downs than ups last season, but in an aggressive attempt to avenge 2012, they also reached out to pitcher R.A. Dickey. If the Mets play their cards right with Wright’s extension and the re-signing of Dickey – 2013 just may be a positive turnaround.

“I'm extremely optimistic,'' said Wright to Heyman. “I've really enjoyed it here [New York].''

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
