Manny Pacquiao rejects Floyd Mayweather’s 'embarassing' offer

BY DAVE RAGAZZO

The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather was getting closer to happening before the Filipino boxer rejected Mayweather’s latest offer Tuesday calling it “embarrassing.”

The discrepancy was over money and it is just the latest issue that has held this fight back from happening.

“It was embarrassing to me,” Pacquiao said. “He was trying to take advantage of me. It is clear he didn’t want to fight.”

Pacquiao said that he personally reached out to Mayweather to arrange the fight and even thought that they had an agreement. Pacquiao realized that there was no agreement on the table when Mayweather brought up the pay per view.

Mayweather wanted to give Pacquiao a $40 million lump sum but wanted the pay per view earnings all for himself. Many believe that the pay per view earnings could be as much as $160 million.

“I called Floyd and told him that we need to make this fight happen,” Pacquaio said. “I said we could have whatever he wants, blood testing, 50/50 split and he said ‘Oh, well. I will give you what you want.’ Then he mentioned the pay per view.”

In the mean time, both Pacquiao and Mayweather have been scheduling other opponents as the two sides try to reach an agreement for their possible mega fight. Both fighters will next fight at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas when Mayweather takes on Miguel Cotto on May 5 and Pacquiao faces Timothy Bradley on June 9.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach says that his fighter is not looking past Bradley, but admits the possibilities and rumors of a meeting with Mayweather are very exciting.

“If both (Pacquiao and Mayweather) come off with good wins it will be a step in the right direction,” Roach said. “That is the match everyone in the world wants to see.”

Although this may not be the fight he wants, Roach knows that Pacquiao must take care of business against Bradley and expects his fighter to win.

“I don’t want him to be compassionate,” Roach said. “I want him to knock people out. Manny can’t be a nice guy and try to touch gloves in the ring with him. It is nice to fight a fighter who is undefeated and not worried about losing that 0 on his record.”

Pacquiao is making $25 million to figth Bradley, Why should he make more to fight Floyd? I understand the fight will make a ton of money but what is Team Pacquiao doing to get more than they usally do? It seems like the money isn't there for this fight if Floyd doesn't bring it! Now Floyd offered Manny $40 million, who is complainting Manny or Bob? Floyd will never fight for Top Rank again and get ripped off like Manny Pacquiao does. So if you think Pacquiao is the one who making the offers think again! Bob could only offer Floyd what he gives Manny Pacquiao!

Common Sense
I guess Floyd can't stand seeing Asians succeeding in sports. First Pacquiao is the #1 attraction in boxing now Jeremy Lin is succeeding in the NBA.

Manny was only making about 16 million or so in his fights anyway(maybe less), to me that would've been a killing to recieve 40 million for that fight..Hell everyone knows Manny was gonna lose anyway so why not take the majority of the profit.

Mayweather is clearly way too greedy or way too scared to risk losing his "0". I throw his tweet words back at him: "Step up, punk!"

Pacquiao obviously wants the fight and is game at offering a fair split (and further agrees to ALL other demands from Mayweather, i.e. testing, venue, date, etc). This is one fight that should be split down the line 50/50. No one deserves more than the other here. So cut the BS Floyd and fight Manny Pacquiao!!!

I think that Merriweather is simply scared to fight Pacquiao. He knows that he can't receive all the pay-per-view purse. It's just another excuse he's using to get out of the fight. He just need to go spend his time in jail and think about how stupid he is for not fighting this fight now. Hell I know I can whip him myself. TX
