Reports say that Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick wanted back into Sunday night’s game against the Falcons after he suffered a concussion in the third quarter, but the team wouldn’t allow it.
According to Philly.com, Vick was grabbed in the backfield by a defender and hit helmet to helmet with Eagles right tackle Todd Herremans. Vick insisted on returning to the field, but once the concussion diagnosis was made, there was no chance the Eagles would let him back in the game.
Vick had been a key player in the game Sunday night, as is usually the case. The quarterback fumbled on two straight possessions and the Eagles trailed 14-10 at the half, then he threw an interception at the beginning of the second half that lead to another Falcons touchdown. Then he took the Eagles down for two scores to give them a 24-21 lead, and was driving for another when he was injured.
According to NorthJersey.com, it is most likely that Vick will not play in Sunday’s Eagles game against the New York Giants, due to the league’s rules on concussions. NFL.com reports that Vick was alert and attentive Sunday night after being hit, but the NFL requires players who are diagnosed with concussions to meet all baseline tests to be cleared to practice or possibly play.
SB Nation reports if Vick is unable to play, third-string quarterback Mike Kafka, who came in for Vick on Sunday, will probably start for the Eagles. Backup Vince Young is currently recovering a hamstring injury.Business Insider reported that Vick had just signed a six-year, $100 million contract with the Eagles before the start of the season.
