Monmouth’s Frazier gets minicamp invite with Cleveland Browns

As he watched the Monmouth Hawks’ first spring scrimmage from the press box two weeks ago, starting quarterback emeritus Kyle Frazier sounded like someone who wanted to get back onto the field and expressed that desire to anyone who asked. He was hoping NFL Draft weekend would be his ticket to another football job, an opportunity to continue a career which included a solid senior season following an ACL surgery in the fall of 2011.

Draft weekend didn’t turn out to hold the ticket, however. Rather the call came three days later. Yesterday, the Cleveland Browns formally invited Frazier to attend next week’s minicamp.

“This is a dream come true to be able to get a shot like this,” said Frazier in a release issued by the University. ”It’s something that I’ve always wanted to be able to do and I’m just one step closer to doing it. I’m kind of right now just a little shocked, but I’m ready to go.”

It’s been a long road since that ACL injury against Bryant on October 15, 2011. Frazier worked hard and was right back out there on opening day to begin the 2012 season as the Hawks starting quarterback. He finished the season 246-of-365 passing for 2,431 yards and 17 touchdowns along with 10 interceptions. He also ran for 231 yards and three more touchdowns.

The release noted that Frazier now holds 13 quarterback records at Monmouth.

Monmouth head coach Kevin Callahan was ecstatic to see Frazier get another chance.

“We are very happy that Kyle has this opportunity with the Cleveland Browns,” said MU Head Coach Kevin Callahan. “He has worked extremely hard to prepare himself for this day, and he is deserving of this opportunity."

The Browns current quarterback depth chart includes incumbent starter Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell, and Thaddeus Lewis.
