Thierry Henry concentrating on World Cup as Red Bulls rumors swirl

BY ANGELA DAIDONE

Chants of "Olé, olé, olé" may be replaced by "Bonjour, bonjour" if rumors are true that French soccer star Thierry Henry is planning to sign with the New York Red Bulls.

Initial reports said that the deal – actually a pre-contract agreement – between the goal-scoring striker and the MLS team was inked for the 2011 season following the World Cup.

But Henry has since talked down the move, saying that he wants to concentrate on the World Cup before considering his future.

"For the moment, nothing is certain," the 32-year-old Henry told reporters. "I am a Barcelona player and have another year left on my contract."

"Currently, my only worry is preparing for the World Cup with France. I will have time to reflect on my future later."

Red Bulls fans, however, are hoping that there is truth to the first reports.

'Titi,' as he is known, became an international sensation when he signed with the Arsenal of the Premier League in England. There he scored 174 goals in 254 matches. Now in his second season with Barcelona, he has found the back of the net 35 times in 78 games. He is also the top goal scorer of all time for the French National Team.

henry move to an american team if he did he would be nuts unless he was demandin a major pay packet... but there would be no need as he could still demand a staarting place in most teams in europes elite....

and to clear it up the team is arsenal fc nicknamed the gunners... the supporters are gooners and they call it the arsenal to describe their team or make their team look better. and henryfan#1 its football period... i dont know why they would call nfl football it dont make sense

First of all, I concur with SC GOoner-"the Arsenal of the Premier League in England." It is just “Arsenal.” Ms. Daidone could have also said the Gunners, but I digress.

I am a huge fan of Thierry Henry. He is arguable one of the greatest strikers to play the game of soccer (aka football). Frankly I would like to see him in the MLS but with DC United, even though I am sure he would no longer be in his prime. I do not know if he would sign with the Red Bull. This could be a stunt for a new contract with Barcelona or any other top tier team. What drama, I can’t wait to see how this plays out.

There is no "the" in Arsenal, and, hopefully, no truth in this rumor.
