USA soccer beat Mexico...and still savoring the victory

BY CHRISTINE VALDEZ

After fighting for 75 years, the U.S. national soccer team has finally accomplished what they have always hoped for.

On Wednesday the U.S. national team beat Mexico in a friendly game, but it was the first time that the U.S beat the Mexican soccer team in their home turf in a 1-0 victory. Since the two teams began playing in Mexico 75 years ago, the U.S. never won a game in Mexico.

According to the Associated Press, Michael Orozco Fiscal made the game winning goal in the 80th minute. It was a goal that Orozco Fiscal dedicated to the USA.

“The goal was for the U.S. fans and the whole U.S. We made history,” said Orozco Fiscal.

Over the 24 previous games played in Mexico, the U.S. managed only one draw and 23 losses, according to Yahoo! Sports.

U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann says that the win gives players motivation and makes them believe more in what the team is capable of.

“Having success in friendly games helps you,” said Klinsmann, according to Goal.com. “Because it helps you from a team side, player side that they kind of believe more in what we’re doing.”

The U.S. handed Mexico their first loss on Wednesday after the Mexican soccer team captured the gold medal in the Olympic games, a tournament in which the American team failed to make. At the Olympic games Mexico sent its under 23 team plus three overage players.

After playing Mexico in a friendly game, the U.S. will continue to play in World Cup qualifiers. The U.S. next World Cup qualifier will be on Sept. 7 against Jamaica.

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
