As an upper level low pressure system develops off the New England coast this morning, a series of disturbances producing scattered showers are already rotating through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. These showers are widely scattered but will rotate from north to southeast through the day around the upper level low. A north to northeasterly wind will transport a cool air mass with broken to overcast cloud cover into the region with temperatures well below normal in the lower to mid 60's for most locations, mid to upper 60's in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
As the upper level low pressure system slowly lifts towards the Canadian Maritimes through this week, showers and thunderstorms will remain a threat throughout the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. Each day will feature warmer temperatures though as the upper level low pressure system moves further to the northeast. With the warmer temperatures, the threat for isolated severe thunderstorms will increase. These thunderstorms will feature heavy downpours, frequent lightning, wind gusts over 40 mph, and the potential for large hail. Temperatures will range from the upper 40's to mid 50's for lows and upper 60's to mid 70's for highs tonight on through Thursday. By Friday, temperatures will warm into the upper 50's to lower 60's for lows and mid to upper 70's for highs.
