At the Consumer Electronics show on Monday, Nokia and Microsoft unveiled their new Lumia 900, a high-speed Windows phone, to be available from AT&T.
Nokia and Microsoft are hoping to make gains in the U.S. smartphone market with the Lumia 900. Businessweek reports that it will have a 4.3 inch display, voice-enabled driving navigation, and wide-angle lens cameras on the front and back. The device will come in black and cyan.
The Lumia is the first of Nokia’s WP7 smartphones with LTE 4G connectivity, and the 16GB device has a 1.4GHz processor, according to the New York Daily News.
Nokia Chief Executive Officer Stephen Elop called the Lumia 900 a “beachhead,” and told Fortune Tech, “Microsoft provides much of the software that businesses use for office productivity like Microsoft Office."
According to CNET, Elop said the Lumia may have an advantage due to longer battery life. CNET also mentioned that the device may achieve success if AT&T supports it with marketing, if Nokia keeps a supply of devices coming, and if consumers give it a chance because it has received good reviews.
But eWeek.com says the product will fail because its designs are below average, consumers prefer Android, Nokia is losing its brand loyalty, and Microsoft has lost its mobile phone following.
Elop said the Lumia 900 will be out "in the coming months," but the date and selling price are uncertain.
