CSI Investigation Underway to Solve N.J. Dog Poop Mystery

Share on Facebook! CSI Riverdale: It seems that a recent crime wave at the Grande in Riverdale has caused the condominium complex to call in DNA experts.

DNA testing will be taking place on the complex’s four legged residents, because dog droppings have been soiling Grande property.

Management recently sent a letter to Grande residents. According to NorthJersey.com, it said that dogs’ mouths will be swabbed for DNA due to a “small percentage of residents who have not been doing their due diligence.” Initial sampling costs $29.95, and is covered by the dog owners’ registration fees.

The Grande will use an operation known as PooPrints to match the doggie DNA. PooPrints came from the BioPet Vet Lab, who partnered with the DNA World Pet Registry. According to pooprints.com, animal profiles and genetic information are now stored electronically, and available for convenient user analysis.

According to an Associated Press report on philly.com, initial fines for not cleaning up after your puppy would be $250, and penalties can go as high as $1,000. Dog owners need to get their pet tested by November 1 or face a $100 fine.

Under the too much information file, PooPrints spokesman Eric Mayer notes that about 80 million dogs in the US create about 275 pounds of waste each year, according to NorthJersey.com. The Environmental Protection Agency says that dog waste contains parasites and pathogens that can pose a risk to human health, and the waste is “carried by storm water into streams.”
