Google's barrel roll inspired by Star Fox Nintendo 64 game

Since there clearly aren’t enough ways to waste time on the Internet, Google is taking care of that problem for you. Their latest creation for Google search will help users waste approximately four more seconds of their lives.

What you need to do is type into Google search "Do a barrel roll," and hit Enter, and your screen will basically to a 360 degree turn. The trick will also work in mobile editions of Google search.

According to ABC News, Google’s explains that “do a barrel roll” was created by a Google software engineer who just wanted to entertain users while showing the power of CSS3, a presentation feature of newer browsers. The “do a barrel roll” query causes the search page to spin. It will remain in place for a while.

PCMag.com reports that users can create the same motion by Google searching for "ZZ" or "RR"—which refer to the Nintendo video game Star Fox 64. In the game, Peppy, space pilot rabbit, tells hero Fox McCloud to "do a barrel roll" which is done by pressing "Z" or "R" twice.

According to Mashable, the barrel roll won’t work on all browsers because it was built in HTML5. It is best supported by Firefox and Chrome.

Long Island Press reports that Google has more of these time-wasting, but fun, “Easter eggs” at your disposal. If a user Googles “Once in a blue moon,” they will get a mathematical calculation of once in a blue moon.

By searching for “anagram,” a user will see “Did you mean: nag a ram.” And some reports say if a user types in “Google gravity,” and hits “I’m feeling lucky,” the screen will drop to the bottom.
