One of New Jersey residents' favorite four letter words is back in the forecast: snow.
Tonight into Friday morning, the latest cross-country snowstorm is expected to spread over the balance of the Northeast.
The impact of the upcoming storm will be felt relatively quickly, as it will remain over any one particular area for only about six to eight hours. However, it may quickly coat roads, so motorists need to be aware.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 7 tonight to 9 a.m. Friday, with forecasts calling for 3 to 4 inches of new snowfall over Morris County and the rest of North Jersey.
The greatest accumulations are expected in the southern Poconos and North Jersey.
Two to three inches are expected to fall in southern New Jersey. It is expected to begin after 7 p.m., causing slippery road conditions and reduced visibility.Northeastern New Jersey is expected to see between 3 to 5 inches of snow until about 8 a.m. Light to moderate snow is expected to be falling during the morning commute.

The State Climatologists site at Rutgers reminds us of better days not all that long ago. In December 2010, the warmest day was the 1st when Hammonton (Atlantic County), Bethel Mill Park (Gloucester) and Cherry Hill (Camden) topped out at 66°. Most other locations in NJ were in the low 60s.
While this snowfall fill not be as severe as what we experienced after Christmas, accuweather.com informs us this snowstorm may be remembered for ushering in the coldest air of the season so far.
Cold: just another four letter word.
