Today will see another in a series of mid level disturbances move through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas this morning with showers and even a few isolated thunderstorms producing heavy downpours. The complex of showers and thunderstorms is rapidly diving south of New Jersey and weakening, leaving plenty of low clouds and damp conditions over the northern Mid Atlantic. The disturbance also has delayed the progression of the warm front through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan area this morning.
The position of the warm front today is going to be a major determining factor in what you experience today. As the low clouds and fog begin to burn off this morning, the warm front will rapidly move east past the Delaware River. For much of eastern Pennsylvania, temperatures will sky rocket into the mid to upper 70's, even a few lower 80's. For western New Jersey, the warm front will begin to stall with a threat for a few passing showers and temperatures rising into the lower to mid 70's for highs this afternoon. Along the coast and over much of Connecticut, the warm front will stall to the west of these locations leading to variable to overcast skies, a threat for scattered showers, and temperatures stalled in the mid 60's to lower 70's. The further east you are, the cooler the conditions.
An area of low pressure over the central Great Lakes will force the warm front through the northern Mid Atlantic tonight with scattered showers a threat. The passage of the warm front will lead to temperatures in the upper 50's to lower 60's for lows tomorrow morning and areas of fog. By tomorrow afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will be a threat as temperatures spike into the mid 70's to lower 80's for highs. The warmest conditions will be focused away from the coast. Similar conditions can be expected on Saturday.
High pressure will take hold for Sunday through Tuesday with scattered cloud cover and tranquil conditions expected. With a new, cooler air mass in place; temperatures will fall closer to near normal levels with lows in the lower to mid 50's and highs in the upper 60's to mid 70's.
A strong cold front will follow on Wednesday with widespread showers and thunderstorms. These thunderstorms will have the potential to reach severe levels. Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 50's for lows and upper 60's to lower 70's for highs.
