FORECAST DISCUSSION:
The Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas are caught between a strong low pressure system over the western Atlantic and a slow moving cold front over the Great Lakes. The combination of these two features actually is strengthening high pressure over the East coast leading to tranquil conditions for today. After the rapidly weakening cold front moves through tomorrow, a warm and comfortable week is expected which will mark a warm start for October!
Today through tomorrow morning, high pressure will slowly shift towards the coast with scattered cloud cover. Winds will back from the north-northeast to the southwest at 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures this afternoon will rebound into the lower to mid 70's throughout the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. Temperatures will fall into the upper 40's to lower 50's over the interior and lower to mid 50's along the coast or lows tomorrow morning.
A very weak cold front will move through the region tomorrow afternoon with winds veering to the west-southwest at 5 to 10 mph. A few isolated showers are possible but most locations will remain dry. Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid 70's along the immediate coast and mid to upper 70's throughout the rest of the region.
High pressure will lock in over the coastal waters of the Mid Atlantic tomorrow nigh on through Saturday with scattered cloud cover and very warm conditions due to a persistent southwesterly wind at 5 to 15 mph. Fog will be a threat each morning due to the high levels of humidity. Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50's over the interior and lower to mid 60's in urban locations and along the coast. High temperatures will range from the upper 70's to lower 80's throughout much of the interior, lower to mid 80's in urban locations, and lower to mid 70's over Long Island.
A strong cold front will move through the northern Mid Atlantic on Sunday with widespread showers. Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 50's over the interior and lower to mid 60's in urban locations and along the coast. High temperatures will range from the upper 70's to lower 80's throughout much of the interior, lower to mid 80's in urban locations, and lower to mid 70's over Long Island.
