A weak cold front moving through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas this morning will set the stage for a major rain storm developing for Wednesday.

The cold front and weak low pressure system will move through the region this morning with widely scattered to isolated showers. These showers will be relatively weak and will be followed by scattered cloud cover by this afternoon with temperatures rebounding into the mid 60's to lower 70's for afternoon highs.

A series of weak disturbances along the stalling cold front will keep the threat for isolated to widely scattered showers in the forecast through tomorrow afternoon, however most locations will experience variable cloud cover and dry conditions. Temperatures through the period will remain slightly above normal with lows in the mid 50's to lower 60's and highs in the mid 60's to mid 70's.

A powerful disturbance over the Rockies this morning will dive into the Mississippi Valley and interact with a tropical disturbance developing to the southwest of Cuba. The combination of these two disturbances will produce a powerful low pressure system over the southern Mid Atlantic by Wednesday morning that will spread moderate to heavy rain throughout the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. Periods of rain, heavy at times, can be expected on Wednesday along with windy conditions. Rainfall amounts of one to two inches with locally higher amounts are expected with this storm. Temperatures will remain slightly above normal with lows in the upper 40's to mid 50's and highs in the upper 60's to mid 70's.

The storm will exit on Wednesday evening followed by strong high pressure over the region by Thursday morning. High pressure will remain in control with tranquil weather conditions through next weekend. Temperatures will return to near to slightly below normal levels with lows in the upper 30's to mid 40's and highs in the upper 50's to mid 60's.
