Samsung officially made its challenge to the iPhone on Thursday in London, when they unveiled their new Galaxy S III smartphone.
The new device has a screen larger than Apple’s units, and it adds face and voice recognition.
According to PC Magazine, the new Samsung phone features a 4.8-inch 1,280-by-720 display, and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The device also has an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.9-megapixel camera at the front.
The new Galaxy will feature S Voice technology — Samsung's Siri. Also, according to CNN, users can just say, "Hi Galaxy ... picture," to open the Galaxy's camera app, and the voice command "cheese" will take a picture. The user will be allowed to share those pictures containing Facebook friends through face-recognition software.
Samsung has passed Nokia as the top-selling mobile phone manufacturer in the world. Most analysts believe the Samsung smartphones outsold Apple’s during the January-to-March fiscal period.
Emirates 24/7 pointed out that while the screen of the new Galaxy phone will be larger than the iPhone's, the Galaxy would be thinner and lighter. And Samsung will also be offering a pad that charges a phone placed on it without needing a cable connection.
Stuart Miles wrote on CNN that the Galaxy S III is more powerful than a user could imagine, and can take on any current smartphones. But Miles says it may have too much power for those people who want just a phone.
Samsung did not announce the prices on its new model. The Galaxy S III will be available in Europe May 29 and comes to the United States this summer.
