Residents dislike his performance 49 to 47 percent
The results of a poll made public Wednesday find New Jerseyans disapprove of Gov. Chris Christie’s job performance by 49 percent to 47 percent, a nine percent increase since February in those who dislike his effort.
Among registered voters, 49 percent disapprove of the governor’s performance and 46 percent approve, according to the Monmouth University/NJ Press Media Poll.
The change in Christie’s rating comes mainly from the number of people who shifted from having no opinion of the governor three months ago to holding a negative view. In February, 47 percent of residents held a positive opinion of Christie – identical to the result in the current poll. However, the number who disapprove has increased by the nine points, while the number who have no opinion of his job performance decreased by seven points.
Christie receives positive ratings from 75 percent of Republicans, 53 percent of independents, and 22 percent of Democrats.
In two other poll findings, ratings for the state Legislature continue to be negative – just 33 percent approve of it’s performance while 47 percent disapprove. A majority (54 percent) of residents say things in New Jersey are on the wrong track. Only 1-in-3 (35 percent) say the state is headed in the right direction, which is similar to other results over the past five years.
The state budget looms large in New Jerseyan’s perceptions of Christie. Nearly 9-in-10 (86 percent) say they have been following the budget debate, including 33 percent who have heard a lot about it. This is slightly lower than the nearly half who closely followed last year’s budget process, but still higher than similar attention levels for the budgets of prior governors.
This year’s budget has been less controversial than Christie’s inaugural effort, but residents are only slightly more happy with the current spending plan than they were last year. About 1-in-4 (24 percent) say they are satisfied with the budget compared to 39 percent who are dissatisfied. Another 35 percent say they can live with the budget proposal even though they are not particularly satisfied with it. Last spring, 22 percent of the public was satisfied with the state budget plan and 44 percent were dissatisfied.
Like last year, the public is split on whether the budget is the product of tough, thoughtful choices (45 percent) or just more of the same old political deals (48 percent). Republicans (63 percent) and independents (53 percent) are more likely to say Christie’s budget is tough and thoughtful while Democrats (68 percent) are more likely to see it as political deal making.
“Two years of austere budgets may be taking a toll on the governor,” Prof. Patrick Murray, the poll‘s director, said. “Efforts to sell his reform agenda at town hall meetings generate a lot of media attention, but it appears that New Jerseyans who are paying the most attention to these events have already made up their minds about the governor’s proposals.”
Since taking office, Christie has held many town hall meetings throughout the state to present his agenda. While these events have received national attention for their “YouTube” moments, less than half (46 percent) of the New Jersey public report having read or heard anything about them. Among those who have been following the governor’s public meetings, 35 percent say these forums do a lot to help residents understand what’s going on in Trenton, 30 percent say they do a little, and 30 percent say they don’t do much in the terms of informing residents.
About half of Republicans (49 percent) say they provide a lot of information while about half of Democrats (48 percent) say they don’t provide much at all. Independents are split – 37 percent say the town halls provide a lot of information and 27 percent say they provide not much at all.
The governor’s cuts to aid for municipalities have increased the burden of providing services at the local level. According to New Jerseyans, their local governments have been handling this well. Most residents (55 percent) say that their municipality has done a good job at keeping spending down in the past year. This view is held by majorities of Democrats (58 percent), Republicans (56 percent), and independents (54 percent) alike. Just 35 percent of residents say their local government has done a bad job.
About 6-in-10 residents (59 percent) are aware that their town is now under a two percent property tax cap. While some local officials say they will not be able to meet the needs of their constituents under the cap, only 30 percent of residents are worried that too many essential services will be cut. Twice as many (62 percent) believe that their local government will still be able to provide most essential services with the cap in place.
The poll was conducted by telephone with 807 New Jersey adults from Thursday through Monday.

Re: Ethics Complaint
Dear U.S. House Ethics Committee,
I duly submit my complaints against Pennsylvania Rep. Bob Brady 1st District and his staff for not carrying out their fiduciary responsibilities to protect me a "Federal Witness".
1) I advised Rep. Bob Brady personally of my reporting of Federal Corruption and case related child abduction of my eleven year old daughter Allison Brittany Mills on March 13, 2011 to him. 2) I advised him of the murder of my brother Ronald G. Mills Jr.
3) I advised Rep. Bob Brady that I was wrongly jailed in DE & N.J., "Left Homeless in Philadelphia, PA" as Rogue members of the F.B.I., Police and some elected officials attempted to cover up or obstruct justice concerning N.J. AG Case# 200706634. I was intimidated by local law enforcement and in fact I was harrassed while I stayed at the Ridge Center for Homeless (Oct. 2009 - Feb. 2010) by undercover Police and/or Rogue agents of the F.B.I. I reported this matter to Philadelphia Mayor Micheal Nutter and City Council.
4) For the record Rep. Brady's staff was duly advised by me of my initial reporting of Federal Corruption to PA officials as early as September 2009. I did so after N.J. Rep. Rob Andrews and Rep. John Adler (Now Deceased) failed to assist me? N.J. Rep. Rob Andrews should also be investigated as his staff failed to assist me in 2009. I was living with my mother Marie Mills at 2113 Berwyn Ct. Voorhees, N.J. 08043 before I was wrongly jailed by Voorhees, N.J. Police in September 2009. I was finally released from Burlington County N.J. minimum security prison on Oct. 15, 2009 and fled to Pennsylvania fearing for my life and freedoms that should be afforded to me as an American!
5) I also sent and published numerous e-mail reports of corruption concerning AG Case# 200706634 to each and every Rep. mentioned in this report utlizing http://www.Congress.org/ .6) On 03.13.11 Rep. Bob Brady promised that he would assist me personally and assured that I would be protected. That has not occurred.
7) I'm fully not surprised as I previously received an letter (attached) and an offer of assistance from his office in February 2010. Quite frankly all I have received to date from Rep. Bob Brady, his staff and from the SE PA DOJ are empty promises. PA State Senator Larry Farnese and PA State Rep. Kenyatta Johnson were also advised of this matter since 2009.
Previously while I resided in the state of Delaware (Oct. 2007 - Jan. 2009) DE U.S. Senator Tom Carper was advised by me of my reporting Federal Corruption in 2008 and the N.J. U.S. Attorneys office failure to prosecute my Federal Case. My divorce fraud case was assigned at that time to then N.J. U.S. Attorney Phillip Kwon to prosecute. That did not occurr as many N.J. officials obstructed justice or hindered the prosecution of my case including Mr. Kwon.
Because I resided in the state of Delaware at the time I then provided evidence and legal documents (Attached) to Delaware Officials including, Delaware Attorney General and the DE U.S. Attorneys office. DE Senator Tom Carper also advised F.B.I. oversight of this serious matter in 2008. Former Delaware U.S. Attorney Colm Connolly and his 1st Assistant later Acting DE U.S. Attorney David C. Weiss quite frankly failed to assist me appropriately because of nepotism. David is related to my former spouse Marni Weiss-Mills of 1323 Crofton Ct. Mt. Laurel, N.J. 08054 Delaware failed to involve the USDOJ and re-directed the case New Jersey Attorney General Case# 200706634 U.S. Vs. Weiss-Mills Divorce Fraud back to the state of N.J. I again seek to request Federal witness protection. My DE address of record as per my complaints - 550 S. DuPont PKWY Unit 9D New Castle, DE 19720.
I ask that you please investigate this matter, please follow up with U.S. AG Eric Holder, U.S. Attorney Zane Memeger Eastern PA DOJ, and PA Rep. Bob Brady on my behalf to find out why I have not been placed in Federal Witness Protection? Please again also see the attached legal documents. Again I have lost everything and left homeless in Philadelphia PA after being wrongly jailed in Delaware & N.J.
For the record I would like to note that I also advised PA Rep. Allison Schwartz, PA Rep. Chaka Fattah and former PA Rep. Joe Sestak. All promised assistance but advised that I must mainly work with Rep. Bob Brady for jurisdictional reasons.
Note: Someone possibly with the F.B.I. continues to steal my U.S. mail and I advised USPS of these continued problems in DE, N.J. & PA. Please also see my Facebook Reports.
