XTU Country Music fans: 2012 Camden concert was the worst yet

Public urination, copious amounts of vomit, and an unruly crowd of approximately 25,000 filled the Susquehanna Bank Center and surrounding parking lots in Camden, N.J. on Saturday, June 2.

The Philadelphia country station, 92.5 XTU held its 28th Anniversary Show, a concert that which the only way to receive tickets is to win them at one of the station’s ticket runs.

According to Camden authorities, 191 people were arrested, 193 people were treated for injuries and illnesses, and 10 were transported to area hospitals the day of the concert.

"WXTU is one of our more challenging concerts. The number of arrests and EMT visits is higher in comparison to other events” at the venue, Camden Police Chief Scott Thomson said.

In fact, the department had a "total recall" on Saturday, meaning every available officer was on duty.

“In all seriousness, the types of people who go to XTU don't go to enjoy the music. They go to sit in the parking lot and drink from 8 in the morning until 8 at night,” said Rhianna Reinmuth, a 19-year old college student who attended the concert.

Although previous years have demonstrated a lack of class, many of those who attended would agree that this year was, by far, the worst yet.

“I witnessed a girl having a seizure and two grown men fighting for reasons I don’t know, but I assume to be stupid, for lack of a better word,” said Sarah Brown, a 17-year-old senior in high school who attended the concert.

However, petty fights were the least of Camden’s worries.

A Burlington County man fled the scene of a hit and run on Saturday, June 2 after his SUV slammed into a vehicle carrying concert-bound country music fans, killing one, police said. He was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Investigators say Ronald Winzinger, 35, left the scene of the accident after evaluating its severity. He later bought a tarpaulin and used it to hide his vehicle in Burlington County, officials said.

Winzinger was found four days later and police were unable to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Michelle MacInnes, 29, of Jackson Township, Ocean County, a passenger in the car that was victim to the hit and run, died of her injuries shortly afterward at Cooper University Hospital.

“They shouldn’t continue to hold the show in upcoming years- it’s too dangerous,” Reinmuth said. “I think if people want to be that wasted in cowboy boots they could probably just have a barbecue in their backyard or something.”

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
