Despite being GOP frontrunner, Christie not running for president; 'I got enough damn problems in NJ'

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie held his 15th town hall meeting in Manalapan yesterday — and he covered some familiar territory.

Most of the governor’s talk focused on familiar New Jersey problems like the pension system and health insurance being deeply in debt.

But the Asbury Park Press reports that one of the questions Christie heard was: If he became president, what would he do to reduce gas prices?

“Ya’ know, with all due respect, I got enough damn problems in New Jersey,” Christie responded to the 400 people in attendance. He clarified to say he didn’t know what he’d do about gas prices, but he will not be running for president.

NewJerseyNewsroom.com reported on a poll that found more than a few GOP primary voters pick him as the frontrunner. A Rasmussen poll says that of 500 people polled, thirty percent said they would "definitely" vote for Christie, and 22 percent said they would "probably" vote for the New Jersey governor.

According to the Asbury Park Press, in the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce’s new Business Climate Survey, almost 63 percent of those polled said they would support Christie for president — but just 19 percent said they would support him in 2012. The balance said they would support Christie after his term as governor ends in January 2014, discounting a possible re-election.

Christie told myfoxphilly.com back in November that there is zero chance he will run. “But I don't – short of suicide, I don't really know what I'd have to do to convince you people that I'm not running. I'm not running."

That said, in March, Christie told the National Review he already knew he could win - if he was ready to run.
