Family of Sarah Townsend upset about accusations

Police in the Sarah Townsend case are becoming increasingly concerned that the missing teenager may have wanted to harm herself.

Authorities on Thursday said that a note in the car raised concerns about Sarah's intentions, according to 6abc.com.

Sarah's mother disagreed with that assessment, saying that her daughter was planning on going to the Florence and Allentown prom, and had been talking about what she wanted to wear.

Police are saying Townsend called Matt Welsh, her boyfriend, to meet her at the park but when he arrived she was gone.

Welsh spoke to Townsend several times on the phone between 7:00 a.m. and about 10:00 a.m. Monday, when he found her car near Sherman’s Pond, according to Burlington Township Police Director Walter Corter.

Roy Townsend, Sarah's father is upset about accusations of Welsh being involved in her disappearance. Welsh did not attend the Wednesday night vigil for Sarah with her parents and friends.

"He's really shook up. That's all I can say right now," said Sarah's father, Roy Townsend, according to CBS News. “I can tell you this, the boyfriend has been fully cooperative,” Corter said, according to NJ.com.

Corter would not comment on whether police had found a suicide note.

On Friday, search crews with police tracking dogs returned to Green Acres Park to continue looking for clues.

I hope it's true that she isn't suicidal but I never would have believed my own son would attempt suicide. Fortunately for both of us I was home and able to dial 911. It's a terrible thing having to imagine your own child is so desperately unhappy that they would do something to harm themselves, but it happens in homes around the country every day. I sincerely hope for Sarah's safe return.
