Thirty-year New Jersey Network veteran Janice Selinger was sworn in Monday as acting director of NJN Public Television and Radio and acting interim president of the NJN Foundation at NJN's Trenton studio.

The appointment came after the NJN Public Broadcasting Authority's commissioners selected Selinger to replace Howard Blumenthal, who announced he will conclude his one-year term as interim director of NJN Public Television and Radio, and interim president of the NJN Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports public media in New Jersey, on Friday.

"NJN will continue to move forward, connecting with the community, and creating programs about the subjects that matter to the residents in New Jersey,'' Selinger said. "We want to hear from our viewers and listeners as we move forward developing programs about local food and farmers, the best places to dine in New Jersey, and other programs about New Jersey."

Kent Manahan, chair of the NJPBA, said, "Under Janice's leadership, we feel confident that she will continue to work diligently to ensure that NJN continues our mission of providing news, public affairs, cultural, and educational programs to New Jersey citizens."

Selinger, an East Brunswick native, most recently served as acting chief operating officer in addition to her role as deputy director for production. She also served as temporary acting director and temporary president of the NJN Foundation from July to September 2009.

Selinger has been instrumental in many aspects at NJN since 1979, where she held the position of deputy director for production and producer of national and local documentaries for NJN. She has won numerous awards including 12 regional Emmy Awards, a 1986 National Headliner Award, a 1989 Corporation for Public Broadcasting Silver Award, the 1987 Vanguard Award and a National Commendation Award from American Women in Radio and Television.

Selinger is the producer of NJN's latest documentary, Decoding Autism, and NJ Fresh! -- a new series on New Jersey's farmers markets, farmers and chefs cooking with local food. She was the producer of many other documentaries including Our Vanishing Past, Green Builders and The Hidden Child.

Prior to joining NJN in 1979, Selinger was on the staff of WCBS-TV in New York where she was associate producer for the Emmy Award-winning consumer affairs show, On Your Side with John Stossel, and the documentary series, Channel 2-Eye On.

Selinger is the former second vice chairman and the former national secretary of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). She serves on the academy's National Awards, Scholarship, and Legal committees. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa and holds a bachelors degree in journalism with highest distinction from Penn State University and a masters in public administration from Rutgers University. Selinger has taught at Rutgers and in the Communication Studies Department at the College of New Jersey.
