Were "Jersey Shore's'' Snooki and Ronnie just being Snooki and Ronnie when they were arrested separately for drinking or fighting in Seaside Heights or was it the shore environment that caused them to go astray?
Well, it turns out that 35 percent of New Jerseyans agree with Gov. Chris Christie that Snooki, Ronnie, The Situation, Pauly D., Sammi, Angelina and Vinnie, the cast members of the reality show, act badly because they're New Yorkers.
While 19 percent agree with New York Gov. David Paterson that the Jersey Shore environment causes people to act badly, according to a Quinnipiac University poll made public Tuesday.
Another 46 percent are undecided.
"New Jerseyans to New York: Keep your low-lifes at home and away from our seashore," Maurice Carroll, the poll's director, said. "Garden State voters don't like the show and believe it's bad for the state. They back Gov. Chris Christie over Gov. David Paterson almost 2 to 1 in deciding who to blame for the hijinx of Snooki, The Situation and the rest."
New Jersey men agree with Christie and blame New York 40 to 20 percent. Women blame New York 31 to 18 percent, with 51 percent are undecided. Democrats split 25 to 25 percent, with 50 percent undecided, while Republicans blame New Yorkers 44 to 17 percent, as do independent voters 37 to 18 percent.
By a 51 to 11 percent margin, New Jerseyans have an unfavorable opinion of "Jersey Shore."
New Jerseyans say 54 to 20 percent that the reality show is bad for the Garden State.
In a bi-partisan show of unity, Republicans agree 57 to 18 percent while Democrats agree 52 to 22 percent. Men say the show is bad for the state 51 to 25 percent and women agree 57 to 15 percent.
From Aug. 9 to 17, Quinnipiac surveyed 1,190 New Jersey voters. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
