NewJerseyNewsroom.com attracts local and national marketers looking to boost ROI by engaging target audience

NJNRlogoW_optTrusted New Jersey journalists have joined forces to create a unique site for an audience that is passionate about their state and their news

New York, New York June 25, 2012 -- What started in a library as a gathering of New Jersey journalists, recently laid off by the New Jersey Star-Ledger, has grown into a respected and vital source of news for a highly engaged New Jersey audience. This group didn’t simply give up on their community when their jobs came to an end. They came together with a common goal and a renewed energy to bring a balanced voice to the issues that matter to their fellow New Jerseyans.

With little or no marketing resources, NewJerseyNewsroom.com has attracted an impressive audience of readers—over 300,000 unique visitors monthly and 500,000 page views—and the site continues to capture the attention of impactful figures in the state. State Senator Shirley K. Turner said, “It is admirable to see a news cooperative comprised entirely of journalists using their skills and talents to keep the fourth estate both accessible and viable.” Jesse Burns, the Director of Communications for the League of Women Voters in New Jersey, says it all, “I rely on NJNR to keep me informed.”

NewJerseyNewsroom.com has partnered with Shinko Media, an independent digital sales company, to provide marketers a clear strategy to reach a passionate audience through their website. By creating innovative digital campaign strategies on NewJerseyNewsroom.com, these campaigns do more than just create brand awareness. They create experiences for users that impact their lives and foster a deeper loyalty toward the brands that are integrated with those experiences.

The website continues to attract national and local advertisers looking for a deeper connection with consumers. Major auto brands, retailers, banks, tourism, oil companies, medical organizations, and government agencies are all finding this site to be an effective way to talk to New Jerseyans and increase brand loyalty through their passion for local, dependable news reporting. Imani Laners, Chief Strategy Officer of Shinko Media, said, “NewJerseyNewsroom.com is giving New Jerseyans the news they want in the engaging way they want it. This is the voice New Jersey readers have been looking for, and companies that integrate their brands with this site will certainly reap the benefits.”

Many advertisers are actively looking for ways to make this website work for them. For instance, a national tourism company decided to test the value of NewJerseyNewsroom.com at the beginning of 2012. Now that company is a dedicated partner of the site and their campaigns are consistently performing with a 7 percent click through rate. Laners said, “That kind of success is simply a result of targeting the right audience who is ready to engage with the brands they find on a website they trust.”

About NewJerseyNewsroom.com

On Jan. 25, 2009, NewJerseyNewsroom.com was founded when over 40 journalists came together at the Montclair Public Library and decided to create a news site — unlike any other — to address the growing journalism void. The only capital they possessed was determination, experience and vision. Despite a lack of financial backing, they pushed forward and a unique news organization was born. NewJerseyNewsroom.com invites everyone to join the mission of telling stories important to the people of New Jersey; stories that shine a light on the dark places. This is journalism not funded by or beholden to corporations or wealthy individuals. NewJerseyNewsroom.com aims for a balanced, insightful take on the news and their goal is to provide a fresh, independent voice.

Children can be conned out of inheritance after multiple marriages

BY CAROL ABAYA NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM THE SANDWICH GENERATION Multiple marriages and blended families can mean children get cheated out of money and assets their parent(s) earned and had before the second or third marriage. At the 2012 senior citizens’ law day conference, Lawrence A. Friedman, Bridgewater elder law attorney, said elders need to protect their children of prior marriages from being disinherited. "Even if your spouse’s current will provides for your children, your spouse may change it after you pass away,” he said. In addition to protecting one's child, an appropriate will can minimize N.J. estate taxes, which kick in if assets are over $675,000. At the conference, Cathyanne Pisciotta from North Brunswick discussed guardianship which could be necessary if various legal documents are not signed. Pisciotta said that if a person does not have a durable power of attorney (for financial affairs) and a living will (for medical decisions), anyone else can seek guardianship of that person. An expensive court proceeding is mandatory. And she said, “If one person seeks guardianship, someone else can challenge the appointment. Another relative may seek to be appointed guardian because he/she wants the money and power.”
