N.J. Education Commissioner Cerf to address teacher effectiveness and tenure reform

TOM HESTER SR.
NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM

State Acting Education Commissioner Chris Cerf will make what his office is describing as a major address Wednesday on public school teacher effectiveness and tenure reform.

The address is expected to launch Gov. Chris Christie's latest push to have teachers evaluated on their ability and change tenure standards that would, in part, allow teachers to be laid off based on their performance evaluations and not on their seniority ranking.

Democrats who control the Legislature and the New Jersey Education Association, the statewide teachers' union, oppose the proposals.

The event is set for 2 p.m. in Room 120 of the Lewis Library at Princeton University.

Seating is limited. For a map of the campus, click here.

Why can't you have your meetings when teachers are available? We are teaching, working and educating children while you bash us at all these different places. Why not hold meetings where teachers can speak and give their piece of mind. I guess NJEA UNION is STRONGER THAN you give us credit for. Why concentrate of teacher reform, and tenure? Why not check out principals and others (administrators) who lack communication skills? Get rid of nepotism first. Evaluating teachers only by performance opens up a can of worms for principals who have many dislikes for some teachers, and it gives them an opportunity to be the bully and destroy education. Why not re-evaluate principals and see if they qualify to do their jobs. You can save the state a lot of money. "Nepotism is like cancer, it spreads when not take care of". Let us do our jobs.

I would also like to attend this meeting but I'm working.

Also, I can't wait to hear how they plan to get rid of tenure. We have so much nepotism that we need to get rid of that first so that this can be fair.

I can't be the only one who is frustrated that meetings such as this along with Governor Christie's town hall meetings take place during times that teachers, who are directly affected by these topics, are unavailable. I'd like the opportunity to hear them both live and perhaps ask questions.
