New Jersey’s largest land mammal made a recent visit to unsuspecting homeowners on Thursday night.
Police were called last night to investigate numerous black bear sightings outside residential homes in Vineland.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Fish and Wildlife shooed the bears back into the woods after making sure people were safely inside.
However, their visit wasn’t over quite yet.
6abc.com reported a bear sighting near the public library in Vineland around 11 a.m. this morning. Officers are waiting for Fish and Wildlife officials to tranquilize the bear, according to NBC10.
The department explained that black bears generally avoid any confrontation with humans; however, rare interactions can occur.
In the case of a bear attack, the DEP warned to avoid direct eye contact and slowly back away. The DEP also told NJ.com that making loud noises with air horns or pots and pans can also scare them away.
