Should Media Call Chris Christie a Fatso?

BY BOB HOLT
NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM

Share on Facebook!New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is a well-spoken, intelligent man who may be speaking as the next Republican presidential candidate in 2016.

Unfortunately, the New Jersey governor’s vocabulary also consists of more than a few unsavory words. Monday, Christie insulted New York Jets reporter Manesh Mehta on WFAN radio by calling Mehta a dope and an idiot for questioning Jets coach Rex Ryan too hard at a news conference.

According to CNN, the New York Daily News responded to Christie’s remarks by using the front page headline, "Who you calling an idiot, fatso!"

Is that any better than what Christie said? Daily News columnist Mike Lupica said Christie didn’t do himself any favors with his comments. Lupica said, according to the New York Daily News, “The biggest guy in the Republican Party may have thought he was being a standup guy for his friend Rex Ryan. He ended up looking small instead.”

Lupica added that he has spent time talking baseball with Governor Christie, and calls him “great company.”

A number of people have not enjoyed Christie’s company. According to POLITICO, Christie said to a local assemblyman regarding the gay marriage debate, “You have numb nuts like Reed Gusciora who put out a statement comparing me to George Wallace and Lester Maddox. Now, come on guys, at some point, you’ve got to able to call BS on those kind of press releases.”

And after a law student and ex-Navy SEAL continually interrupted Christie at a town hall meeting, Christie called him an “idiot” and said the man’s past military service “doesn’t give him the right to be a jerk.”

Gothamist noted that other Christie terms have included ignoramus, thugs, and embarrassment.

That being said, philly.com points out that another headline inside the Daily News read “Attack of the Blob.” And at the time Christie went to Israel, the New York Post used the headline, “The Whale at the Wall.”
