A study conducted by three non-profits: The Center for Public Integrity, Global Integrity and Public Radio International, has found that New Jersey is number one when it comes to accountability and transparency in its fight against official corruption.
The State Integrity Investigation, an 18-month long study, looked at how each state’s laws and practices help dissuade corruption and foster openness in government. The study found that only five states are doing a good job, with New Jersey ranking number 1 with a score of 87 and a grade of B+.
The other four states that scored a B grade were Connecticut, Washington, California and Nebraska. New York ranked 34th, with a D grade and a score of 64.
Ranked last was Georgia with a F grade and a score of 49.
No state received an A.
“The Garden State ranks first in the integrity probe for ethics enforcement, first for executive branch accountability and fourth for procurement practices,” reported i-Watch News, The Center for Public Integrity’s news website.
The study was funded by Omidyar Network and the Rita Allen Foundation with additional support provided by the Rockefeller Family Fund.
