Newark police say they have arrested a woman on a warrant issued by North Carolina police in connection with Jamel Terry, who is sitting in the Essex County Jail awaiting extradition back to North Carolina after a brief shootout with Newark police Tuesday.

Newark police say the Jacksonville police issued a warrant for the arrest of 20-year-old Sylvanina Lloyd, who North Carolina police allege was present during the December 23, 2010 murder of Brandon Jamone Denby and fled the state with Terry.

Lloyd, who police say was also present when Terry, 26, was arrested in Newark, is also from Jacksonville, N.C. and has been charged with being an accessory after the fact. Newark police took Lloyd into custody Thursday and placed her in jail to await extradition.

"The process of extraditing Sylvanina Lloyd is underway," JPD Lt. Ashley Weaver told News 14 Carolina.

Lloyd's boyfriend, Terry remains in the Essex County Jail, and since Newark police will lodge charges against him in connection to the shootout with their officers, Terry's extradition may be more complicated.

North Carolina police have not said why they believe Terry allegedly shot Denby, who was Terry's roommate and a semi-pro football player.

The shooting of Brandon Jamone Denby remains under investigation in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Anyone with information about that case should contact Jacksonville Detective David Miltier at 910-938-6404 or Crime Stoppers at 910-938-3273.
