About 200 people were at a frat party in the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity house in Glassboro when police found over 100 underage drinkers and nearly 1,000 cans of beer.
The Gloucester County Times reports that Rowan spokesman Joe Cordona said the raid came from information that the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at the university was selling alcohol both without a license and to individuals under the legal drinking age of 21.
According to the Courier Post, police said about 10 others at the party are being charged with obstruction of justice, and providing false information.
Two juveniles were taken into custody for their own “safety” due to high levels of intoxication. Cordona said Rowan students caught face disciplinary action by the Dean, which could range from a fine to being expelled.
Lessons from the Rowan University raid was not lost on Rutgers. The Daily Targum said the actions should serve as a reminder that parties are harmless as long as certain lines are not crossed.
They said anyone hosting a party needs to make sure safety is a top priority. A host should be mindful of providing more vulnerable students alcohol, and they can make sure the students get home safe and sound.
TKE fraternity, founded in 1899, has 291 active chapters and 252,000 members.
