GOP Debate: How is it possible Ron Paul is winning?

BY MURRAY SABRIN
COMMENTARY

Despite being asked the least amount of questions at the NBC/Politico debate at the Reagan Library on September 7, Rep. Ron Paul is winning even though he is only third in the national polls. How is that possible? Because the other candidates are sounding more and more like Ron Paul as the primary season unfolds.

On virtually every major issue, the seven dwarfs have taken pages out of the Ron Paul handbook for restoring the American Republic. On military adventurism, some of the candidates sounded like Ron Paul who has been calling for ending the reckless nation building in Afghanistan and Iraq that has cost the American economy trillions of dollars, destroyed property and killed hundreds of thousands military personnel and civilians, and having opposed the illegal military action against Libya.

Although Ron Paul has been a critic of the Federal Reserve since he was first elected to Congress in 1976, Newt Gingrich virtually plagiarized Paul’s critique during the debate. Even Rick Perry plagiarized one of Ron Paul’s criticism–Social Security among many federal government programs is not authorized by the Constitution and young people should be given the opportunity to save for their own retirement so we can end the inter generational chain letter once-and-for-all. On healthcare, Ron Paul, a physician, was not asked a question about the subject, but the other candidates were given the opportunity to go after ObamaCare.

On taxes and spending and government regulation, the seven pretenders claimed to be for limited government but support the welfare-warfare state to one degree or another. On regulation, Ron Paul gave a short answer but missed a golden opportunity to show how the market regulates itself by pointing out that Underwriters Laboratory and Consumers Union provide consumers with non-government information about products so they can make a wise decision in the marketplace.

A compilation of videos I have collected from veterans over the last five months. As veterans we have a duty to the American people to let them know that we overwhelmingly support the candidate of peace and the champion of The Constitution. Please share. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP8q7fc7TR4&feature;=youtu.be

Presidential candidate Ron Paul is exactly right concerning the long-term destabilizing consequences of the tragic aftermath to 9/11, and the decades of disastrous foreign policy interventionism in the Middle East which preceded the attacks.

The illegal and unconstitutional Bush/Obama pre-emptive wars of aggression in the region have not made us safer or enhanced our national security. They have weakened our defense posture and bankrupted our nation. The invasive USA Patriot Act and draconian TSA abuse at the nation's airports have brought the battle front to the American homeland. But the war is not upon enemies abroad but upon the American people and their rights and liberties.

Such actions have unforeseen consequences. The CIA calls it "blowback." Military adventurism and CIA covert actions (such as Operation Ajax, the 1953 Iranian coup d'etat re-installing the Shah whose brutal policies directly led to the 1979 Islamic Revolution and the hostage crisis) have destabilized the region. Our present actions in Iraq have further driven that nation into the hands of these Iranian Shite extremists.

As Mujahedeen ("Soldiers of God"), Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda were a direct consequence of the CIA's massive covert intervention in Afghanistan against the Soviets beginning in the late 1970s under the Carter administration, continuing unabated under Reagan through the 1980s. Military adventurism bankrupted and destroyed the Soviet empire. It is doing the same to our American empire.

Millions of grassroots Americans from all political parties and all walks of life and backgrounds have recognized that twelve term Congressman Ron Paul is the only presidential candidate seriously addressing the crucial linkage between both our unsustainable military presence of 900 overseas bases in 130 countries (and five ongoing undeclared wars), and our unsustainable entitlement system built upon shifting fiscal sand and massive deficit spending.

This fraudulent welfare-warfare state, enabled by covert monetary manipulation by the Federal Reserve, is bankrupting the American people.

We have a national debt approaching fifteen trillion dollars, with outstanding future obligations of $104,000,000,000,000,000 in Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Civil Service and Veterans benefits, etc.

America is a constitutional republic, not an empire.

We are not the policeman of the world.

It is time to end the empire, end the wars, and bring the troops home.

It is time for strategic disengagement and nonintervention in the internal affairs of other nations.

It is time to restore peace, prosperity, and freedom to America.

It is time for Ron Paul 2012.

Not sure why there is so much support for Rick Perry in the media. As a life-long republican from Texas, we know he is all about opportunity, and not all about being conservative. His tone seems to change like the wind. He was a backer of Al Gore for Christ’s sake. When the cameras are not on, he seems to think he’s above the law. If you haven’t seen it, here is a link of him trying to get his driver out of a ticket, recorded from the state trooper’s dash cam.

If you want more of the same Washington, just vote for Perry.

Dr. Paul is the only guy who can beat Obama. Those other fools will loose. He does not lie! They lie. We want someone who is not 'OWNED' by the lobbiests. Dr. Paul only thinks about America. I pray to god that the electoriate will stay the course and prove the 'Organized News Media...INCLUDING FOX' that Dr. Paul is the the guy to beat Obama. Do you people get? He can win, HE WILL WIN!

Good article. It's gross how the main stream media goes out of their way to not give Ron Paul the credit he deserves and most of of all his message about liberty and respect for all human life.

Let us make a difference and be on the right side of history.

Ron Paul for president in 2012!!

And I don't impress easily. Intelligent observation conveyed clearly, but most of all, true. More than I can say for most articles I am reading lately.

First off, thank you for writing a fair assessment of Ron Paul in your article. What continues to baffle me is repeated theme I hear people say that Ron Paul is un-electable. Excuse me, but if that's what people think then there is a truly distorted idea of what is electable is America. For all the complaining Americans do about income taxes, corrupt politicians, the government ignoring the people, never-ending wars, the country falling apart, losses of their rights, etc. how can anyone with an ounce of common sense not realize that Ron Paul is ONLY candidate that is electable? It's the other candidates that are un-electable as they will just be a continuation of the status quo and corruption. If you want to end the insanity stop repeating the same ridiculous mistakes over and over again. Stop voting those smooth talking crooks into office. If you are truly fed with all the complaining, and truly want your chance of living the American dream they talk about in history books then do the smart thing for yourself, your family & friends, for your children and vote for Ron Paul. He is the only candidate that has consistently stood for the people and the Constitution for his entire 30 year career, even when the cameras weren't running. He has repeatedly spoken out years in advance against things being done by the government that would negatively impact the US in the future, and he was always right. He knows the ins and outs of the system. He has a solid and consistently track record. He doesn't have a closet full of scandals. He's honest. He's intelligent. He has vision and he is unarguably the most qualified for the position. That is what makes him electable.... the only candidate who is.

I have been saying the exact same thing ever since the first Republican debate. The candidates are all picking out little pieces of the whole Ron Paul message for months now. You will be hearing the words 'Constitution' and 'freedom & liberty' more and more in the coming months. All thanks to Dr. Paul. Even some of the Democrats are starting to use these words. It would be nice if they meant it, but only Dr. Paul is sincere in his message. Ron Paul could be one of the greatest Presidents that this country has ever seen. How about a Paul/Huntsman ticket. That would be the perfect White House. And by the way, shame on the audience last night cheering and applauding Governor Perry's comment about the death penalty. He has executed innocent people, and retarded people. Start 'Googling'.him and you'll find out all kinds of nasty little facts that he wants to sweep under the carpet. He is not Presidential material. I would almost vote for Obama over Rick Perry. But if it got to that point, I would just write in 'Ron Paul' as a protest.

They aren't worried who sounds the best but by who is the best for the job... that's why Ron Paul is winning.

Thank you for the fair assesment of Ron Paul.

I was disapointed in his preformance at the GOP last night. I know he was set up on many occasions but he seemed a little less like Ron Paul last night.

I dont want to see Ron Paul try and attack other candidates. let them come to him. that was he is seen as the good guy he is.

Ron Paul knows many of the problems with government, what he needs is ideas on how it would work if he was president.
For example FEMA. if he had a plan for after Fema thats sounded a little better it would of been easier for him to brush off that attack..

I think the GOP and republicans threw as much dirt as they could at RON last night, its all up hill from here..

why was there no online Poll last night?

Go Ron Paul...

Thanks so much, MURRAY SABRIN! we need more honest reporter's like you. keep spreading the truth and many will repect you. This is why Dr. Paul is making such a movement. And I am glad you are part of it, whether you believe it or not...Your not just reporting anymore but bring liberty and justice for all :o)

By who's account is he winning? Yours? Internet bloggers? Most internet polls you see will ALWAYS show Ron Paul ahead. This however does NOT reflect reality no matter how much you and others try in vain to spin it as such. Look, I have no major problems with Ron Paul aside from his unrealistic isolationist views and his un-electability. Ron Paul has now become a poster child for the self-disenfranchised, bitter, cynics across America... this is why he seems to transcend party lines. But the fact is, this base does NOT get presidents elected. Never has never will so please just give it a rest already!

It's about time he gets mentioned by a media outlet. Thank you for the courage to report honestly... It seems unheard of anymore. I totally agree about the plagiarizing of his beliefs. They all seem to be coming true, and if the other candidates didn't acknowledge them they would be out of the loop. Hopefully he will finally achieve the attention he truly deserves. Also, like the top reply, I've had very democratic views my entire life, but listening to Paul's reasoning since last year, I can't even begin to argue against how correct he really is... Great article, thanks again.

Democrat at heart
I was a democrat my whole life and switched to vote for Ron Paul last elections. It seems he is the only one not wanting to kill muslims, just because they might be "terrorists". Or anyone else for that matter. He is not an isolationist as some of the media leads people to believe, he just wants to worry about our country and not other countries who didn't ask for our help in the first place and gave us a more negative image of the US. He's a non-interventionist, unless congress declares war. Weird concept, huh?! If Republicans were smart this is the only guy who independents and democrats fed up with their own party's corrupt politcians might vote for. Forget about the other candidates, Obama might win if we elect them!

Thank you for some 'fair and honest' reporting. That is all we expect of people who say they are "professional" journalists. It is a noble profession in low repute at the moment due to the hidden agendas of many who present opinion without factual support as 'news'. Whatever happened to the W5 taught in journalism schools (or is it?)? Who, What, Where, When and Why. That's all the public wants. We don't need just another brick in the wall. Thanks for not being a brick!

If you have friends in other major news outlets please have them post this, or a version of this. The main stream media is trying to block Congressman, Dr. Paul. Us Americans that support him need help. Please help. The mainstream media has blocked him and blacked him out.

Finally someone who call all other GOP candidates out. They all coming around to some of Paul's ideas. I might not agree with everything Dr. Paul has to say but at least he is consistent, truthful and has no special corporation interests. He seems like he's the only politician that has not been corrupted. The other candidates have no records to back up their new found beliefs. Mitt Romney placating to Tea party (kiss a@#). Everyone seems like a sleezy used car salesman. All promises, empty nothing to show for it, nothing to back it up. Most of them are flip floppers on almost every issue!! Look up their records. Remember other presidents who claimed to end war, smaller government but ended up doing the opposite. No back up record from them either! So why not take a chance on a guy who actually has a consistent record to back it up. At least we know what he stands for, no suprises, as I was with Obama. We were hoping he'd be different. Please bring our troops home!! Please do research and vote for whoever you mostly agree with. It will be very interesting to see who America finally elects this time around.

I am very happy to see an honest assessment of the situation and a journalist that has integrity to stay objective when reporting the news. Thank you Mr. Sabrin. Just look at the after debate poll from NBC and how much Vietnam War Veteran Republican Presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul is winning by now. Dr. Paul has about 51 percent of the vote from over 78,000 voters for him so far and Romney/Perry are barely at 19 percent!. This speaks volumes. Now if only their bar graph was to scale properly. Please check this out. http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/09/07/7658608-who-do-you-think-won-the-republican-debate-at-the-reagan-library
