New Jersey deserves to know what Gov. Christie is hiding

Gov. Christie ditches promised transparency and attacks those who question his hidden agenda

BY JOHN WISNIEWSKI
COMMENTARY

Governor Chris Christie promised New Jersey open and transparent government. In his first cabinet meeting, he laid down the ground rules:

"Folks in this state have a right to know what we're doing in their name every day.”

But apparently those rules don’t apply to the governor. Days after being forced to answer questions over the discovery of a secret trip to address a group convened in Colorado by the right-wing Koch brothers, a gathering secret enough that static noise was reportedly blasted out at venue perimeters to discourage eavesdropping, Christie is now telling reporters who question him to get a life: "I go a lot of places without telling you."

Christie was pressed by host Eric Scott, of NJ 101.5, on his "Ask the Governor" show about keeping his actions secret and claiming the time was personal. In response, the Governor tried to justify his secrecy by comparing his speech before billionaires looking to influence policy, to dinner in New York or attending a Delaware football game, saying it was no different. Christie is rapidly running away from the rule he says he runs his administration by - transparency - in order to conceal his movements and what they might mean for New Jersey policy.

When he was found to have used a taxpayer-funded state helicopter to attend private meetings in June, Christie first refused to release the logs of his trips, then refused to reimburse NJ taxpayers, because “he was always on duty.” But now that his latest secret trip has been exposed, the governor seems to think he can go off-duty anytime he doesn’t want people to know what he’s doing. And if you don't like it? Tough.

Earlier this year, it was discovered that Christie held a meeting with Roger Ailes, head of one of the most powerful television news networks in America. It was not on his schedule and he later claimed it was for private consultations because Ailes was a confidential advisor. The governor should stop hiding his actions from the public.

Give me a break John!!! Where was your concern for transparency when Corzine was negotiating the CWA contracts against the bargaining table with his paramour, Carla Katz? I guess those intimate discussions were no ones concern.....ROFLMAO

Warren, I agree with you. And he's never hinted at him even being right of center. He's far right, and so far off the beaten path for what NJ needs right now.

He'll brow-beat Obama for various things like jobs, but I ask, "How many jobs has he created for NJ?" NONE is the answer. "And how many jobs-related legislation has he pushed?" NONE is the answer.

Nope, he still hangs on to 'it's Corzine's fault' but that ship has long sailed. There's no more room for his excuses. He simply can't deliver.

Anyone who doesn't believe he has a far right ideology , is naive and not in touch with the true political climate . He has met with Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch and why wouldn't he meet with the Koch brothers , their all peas in the same pod . Christie is dangerous and he is bad for this state and the country . yes he should be held accountable and the efforts to make that happen need to be racheted up .
