The Liquid Church of New Jersey is fairly new and relatively unknown, but they are about to conduct a program that just might bring them a load of new members.
During their six Sunday morning services on September 25th, Liquid Church is having a "Reverse Offering" — distributing $30,000 in cash to all in attendance. The 2000 member church also plans to release $60,000 into local community projects in the three NJ counties where it holds services: Essex, Middlesex and Morris.
The lead Pastor of Liquid Church, Tim Lucas, believes that people have lost faith in their government. Each congregation member in attendance will receive a special envelope with the words "God Trusts You!" which holds varied cash portions of the Reverse Offering with $10, $20 and $50 bills.
"Every dollar in our economy is printed with the words 'In God We Trust,' but we want to teach people that 'God Trusts Them,'" said Lucas, according to a press release on Market Watch. Lucas has said, "Jesus talked more about money than Heaven & Hell combined."
Lucas is currently preaching a four-part sermon series called "Broke" that teaches church members the biblical principles of finance and how to live on a budget.According to Christian Post, Lucas organized Liquid Church in 2001. It aids in providing clean drinking water for Ethiopia, Central African Republic, Haiti and El Salvador.
Liquidchurch.com says services will be held at the John Walker Middle School in Nutley, the Heldrich Hotel in New Brunswick, and the Hyatt Hotel in Morristown. Services are at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., with an additional 5:00 p.m. service in Morristown.
