Joe has been a reporter in New Jersey for 30 years, including 25 at The Star-Ledger. He has focused on politics, the environment and agriculture while working primarily in northwestern and central New Jersey, and has won awards for investigative, environmental and and breaking news coverage. He is also a travel writer who speaks and reads French. Tyrrell is the founder and former board member of the New Jersey Foundation for Open Government, which helped rewrite the state's Open Public Records Act and works to increase public access to government meetings and documents. Tyrrell is a graduate of Temple University and has done post-graduate studies at Rutgers University and L'Université François Rabelais.
