John has covered education in New Jersey for almost 15 years and been the Newark Star-Ledger's K-12 reporter for the last nine. His beat spans from classrooms to state and national government, covering everything from the work of a single school to the broad policy requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act. He has also been the chief reporter on the Star-Ledger's annual School Report Card. Before the Star-Ledger, he was an education reporter at the Bergen Record, including higher education, and covered municipal and county governments as well. He is now working as a freelance writer, including articles covering New Jersey education for The New York Times.
