Maura wrote for The Star-Ledger for more than five years, most recently covering redevelopment in Newark and the Meadowlands. Her work has been recognized by the New Jersey Press Association, the New York Press Association, the National Newspaper Association and the National Association of Secondary School Principals' Benjamin Fine Award, and she has received a journalism fellowship from the Carter Center. She earned a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University, where she was a recipient of a fellowship for investigative business reporting, as well as scholarship awards from the Deadline Club (New York City chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists) and the Newswomen's Club of New York. A native of Brooklyn, she holds a bachelor's degree in English literature from Swarthmore College.
