New Year’s Eve in Times Square lost Snooki ball drop to N.J.

"Jersey Shore's" New Year event scheduled for Times Square on New Year's Eve won't be happening. Star attraction Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi was expected to ring in the New Year by dropping in a glass ball on Dec. 31.

Snooki earlier told USA Today that the human ball drop will turn her into "a friggin' hamster!" She had expected the event to turn out fine, and said if it didn't, someone would be in big trouble.

Popeater.com reports that Snooki and MTV were the ones who found themselves in big trouble once the officials who control Times Square on Dec. 31 found out what MTV was planning.

According to entertainment.gather.com, when officials in charge found out Snooki and MTV's plans they immediately banned them and the stunt from the New Year's Eve Party.

Gothamist.com reported the Jersey Shore star was going to be put in a ball and lowered into Times Square as part of MTV's New Year's Bash. Her castmates were also to be on hand, leading the crowd in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for group fist-pumping.

Insiders say MTV has to rent a position in the Square that night like every other media outlet. No one can get access to the Square without an official credential. You have to play by their official rules.

So instead, the New York Daily News reports, Snooki is down at the "Jersey Shore" house in Seaside Heights, where photographers earlier this week captured crews setting up for Friday's festivities.

"We love our Times Square home and while we're disappointed there won't be a Snooki ball drop there, she cannot be denied!" MTV said in a statement confirming the move. "So we're taking a road trip to the place where it all began, Seaside Heights, and droppin' it all there."

"It was never intended or requested for Snooki to be in the actual New Year's Eve Ball in Times Square," Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, co-producers of Times Square New Year's Eve said. "The request to have her in a separate ball on a set-back roof came too late and was too impractical to fit in to our outdoor events."

MTV's "New Year's Bash 2011" airs live on MTV and MTV2 Friday beginning at 10:30 p.m. and will feature a look at the third season of "Jersey Shore."
