Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises president John Sykes said he wanted the 12/12/12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert to be the greatest rock show assembled on one stage, but something was missing.
So he added the Rolling Stones.
According to Time, the show will also feature Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Alicia Keys, Roger Waters, The Who, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, and Kanye West.
Show producers called the event the largest gathering of musicians ever put together at Madison Square Garden.
Celebrities helping out in the concert’s telethon include Billy Crystal, Leonardo DiCaprio, Susan Sarandon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Sean Combs, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Myers, Quentin Tarantino, Brian Williams, Jon Stewart, Steve Buscemi and Chelsea Clinton.
TV Guide reports that the concert’s proceeds will go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which will help people hurt by Hurricane Sandy.
The Concert for Sandy Relief will begin at 7:30 pm on December 12, 2012. According to 121212concert.org, it will be accessible on 34 U.S. networks and television feeds by one billion people around the world.
The show will be simulcast free of charge in selected theaters of areas hit by Hurricane Sandy. People reports that those theaters include: Clearview Cinemas, Bow Tie Cinemas, Frank Theatres, Marquee Cinemas, National Amusements and Rave Cinemas. Tickets will be first-come first-served, and doors will open at 6:45 pm.
