Taylor Swift invites leukemia fighter to Country Music Awards as date

Kevin McGuire, who goes to Sterling High School in Somerdale, was first diagnosed with leukemia when he was 13 years old. McGuire took over 35 pills a night and underwent years of chemo treatments, hundreds of spinal taps, and a number of bone marrow screenings to defeat his illness.

McGuire’s older sister Victoria says Kevin became known throughout their community as Sterling High School's "real life Superman!" McGuire thought he had beaten the cancer in April 2010, but it has returned for the second time.

Victoria McGuire believes that her brother deserves a special event in his life for his display of courage and says nothing brightens Kevin's day more than Taylor Swift, who spent summers at the New Jersey shore in her "younger" years.

According to Yahoo! Music, she said Kevin was concerned that losing his hair due to treatments would prevent him from getting a date for his senior prom. So Victoria said, “What if I got Taylor Swift to go to the prom with you?'"

She then designed a Facebook page where Kevin could reach out to Swift and invite the singer to his senior prom. McGuire’s prom falls on June 1, which is the same day as his birthday.

Swift received word of the invitation, but was unable to make the date. She responded on her own Facebook page with her own counter offer. She wrote, "Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up... Would you be my date?"

MTV News reported that connections to Swift confirmed that the Facebook post was legitimate.

The Courier Post reported that McGuire had a quick answer. “Obviously I said yes,” McGuire said, but he admitted that he may not be able to attend due to his illness. He added, “Thanks for reaching out to me. It means a lot to me and I can’t wait to meet you.”

The Country Music Awards will be held in Las Vegas on April 1.

The only one pathetic her is you Debbie.

Taylor did the right/unselfish thing. Why would she wanna ruin the prom experience for the others who graduate? Because the media would be all over this regardless.

Why would Taylor go to his prom, which is what he wants, than to take the opportunity to parade him in front of millions for sympathy. Taylor is doing this for her career, to make her look good, it only makes her look more pathetic.
