Everything must go and it’s priced to move. Well not really, but if you’ve got about $1.4 million available, instead of taking a vacation somewhere this year, you can buy yourself an entire town.
The town of Pray, Montana, population 197, is on the market. Your purchase of the community will include a four-unit trailer park, a general store that has been boarded up, and a post office that serves ZIP code 59065.
Barbara Walker bought the town with her husband in 1953. He died of cancer in 2006, and Walker became Pray’s mayor. She doesn’t want to run the town alone. Walker said to The Daily, “Along with mayor, I’m the sheriff and the garbage control and the animal control officer.”
Bart Miller, the Colorado realtor that has listed the property, called it unique. He told the Missoulian, "It's really meant for someone to come in and make a bed and breakfast or coffee shop or general store."
Walker called her town low maintenance. She said there are enough locals around to support a small store. The store used to be a gathering place for locals to drink coffee and chat.
If the property doesn't sell, she's thinking about having an auction this summer. "I'm hoping somebody buys it because they want to do something with it," she said to the Missoulian.
According to Yahoo! News, the next town owner has a few celebrities as neighbors. Actors Dennis Quaid, Peter Fonda, and Jeff Bridges have homes near the area.
Maybe the next buyer of Pray can wait for the price to come down, or negotiate for a better deal. Curbed National reported that a Filipino church bought the town of Scenic, South Dakota last year for $800,000.
