Tiger Woods will lead golf's best into Jersey City this week

World's top 125 players will compete in The Barclay's at Liberty National Golf Club

Tiger Woods' late decision to participate in The Barclay's immediately sent golf fans' hearts a-flutter and virtually guaranteed sell-out crowds when action kicks off this week at Jersey City's Liberty National Golf Club.

Woods last visited New Jersey at the 2005 PGA at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield.
Practice rounds are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday with tournament rounds running Thursday through Sunday.

The field includes the top 125 players, including Phil Mickelson (who happens to be a member at the exclusive club) and defending champion Vijay Singh, who won the event held last year at the Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus.

But Woods is the big draw, no doubt about it, and he'll certainly be up for the challenge of the three-year-old 7,419-yard course, especially after losing on the final day of the PGA Championship nine days ago to Y.E. Yang (who also has committed to play).

In addition to the world's top golfers, The Barclays – the first of four PGA Tour FedExCup playoff events, will have a lot to offer fans, too, if Mother Nature cooperates.

At last check, weather forecasters were predicting cooler temperatures (good) but a chance of showers beginning mid-week (not so good) and thunderstorms by the weekend (not good at all).

But that aside, all but four holes offer a view of Lady Liberty and/or the Manhattan skyline so out-of-towners will be in for a treat. General admission is $35 in advance, $60 at the gate for Thursday-Sunday rounds. Weekly general admission is $100 in advance (not at the gate) but you'd better act quickly.

All tickets are available through ticketmaster.com, The Barclays tournament office (1-800-765-4742) or at the gate, depending on availability.

Parking is available at various sites, including the nearby Bayonne cruise port, and NJ Transit will operate train service to Liberty National State Park.
