A missed call by umpire Ron Kulpa helped to turn Game 3 of the World Series in the St. Louis Cardinals’ favor.
The Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers 16-7 on Saturday to take a two games to one advantage in the 2011 World Series. They were led by slugger Albert Pujols, who finished 5 for 6 with 6 RBIs.
CBS Sports reported that Pujols joined Reggie Jackson and Babe Ruth as the only players to hit three home runs in a World Series game.
According to boston.com, Pujols led off the fourth inning with a single, and Matt Holliday hit a hard grounder to shortstop Elvis Andrus. Andrus threw to second base for the force play, but Ian Kinsler's throw to first pulled Mike Napoli off the bag.

Replays showed made the tag with the runner short of first, but umpire Ron Kulpa, called him safe. The Cardinals took clear advantage, and jumped to a 5-0 lead.
USA Today reports that Kulpa grew up in St. Louis. He is umpiring in the World Series for the first time in his career. Kulpa was right-field umpire in Game 1, umpired second base in Game 2 and will be behind the plate for Game 4 Sunday in Texas.
MLB.com reports that Texas will try to even the World Series by sending left-hander Derek Holland to the mound Sunday night. Holland had a record of 16-5 during the regular season, with an ERA of 3.95.
